![]() ![]() If Rush decided to buckle down and behave, if they adhered to the standards and practices of Music 101, that would make them sound like practically every other band out there. Can't anybody send them the memo?īut wait… hold on a second. Somebody has got to sit Rush down and read them the rules – you know, the ones that state that they have to act their freaking ages and stop jamming around so damn much that six and seven-minute songs with lots of badass musicianship are out that there can’t possibly be new sounds to discover that concept albums are so, like, Hemispheres that songs are supposed to be verse, chorus, verse – c’mon, call in the pro LA tunesmiths already!Īnd don’t forget to tell them to get at least five or six backing musicians on stage – that’s what all the really big bands do that they need to write some tunes about chicks, for chrissake that the drummer must play to the song – knock it off with all that, you know, “extra stuff.”Īnd most of all, won’t somebody please tell these guys that groups that have been together for 38 years are supposed to suck? They’re not meant to have breakthroughs and keep getting better and better. I think that "Far Cry" is one of the coolest songs they ever put out, it is both rocking and inspiring to listen to.Alex, Geddy and Neil take us on a thrilling, fascinating journey Rush: Clockwork Angels full album review track-by-track S&A will always have a special place in my musical heard because I was an adolescent who discovered Rush during that era. And Clockwork Angels was a brilliant statement to end the band on ![]() I think that "Far Cry" is one of the coolest songs they ever put out, it is both rocking and inspiring to listen to. But also with some killer sweet melodies (The Garden, Halo Effect) The playing was not as indulgent on this album (even their instrumental jam Malignant Narcissism isn't long or solo-filled) and the melodies seemed to go for more melodic than anything elseĬlockwork Angels was their statement of "watch, we can still rock the **** out of our instruments with songs such as Caravan and Headlong Flight featuring some of the heaviest guitar riffs they have ever done - hell even the solo to Headlong Flight sounds like Kirk Hammett being channeled through Alex. Snakes featured a ton of acoustic elements in even their rockers, and it seemed to be one of their most "organic" acoustic sounding albums probably since many of their 70s albums. I think Snakes and Arrows and Clockwork Angels are amazing for different reasons I just lower gain/pre amp volume in Jriver to keep away from clipping. I listen to this mostly out of HD6xx or LCD2F headphones with 3 different amps and a modi multibit DAC and I don't EQ. Maybe a hair less on the guitars/mid-range. There's only a handful of section are less than stellar sounding and a bit less compression on the drums would be nice. Yeah I know it can possibly be better but it the music is this good I'm not a complainer. There's a lot of weird sounds and voices on this album. The way geddys bass is mixed and tuned or whatever so it can be heard but at times it peeks under and then back over the mix is awesome. Yeah it's not Kings with ambient space between notes and all analog 70s sounding and panning of classical guitars. However this album sounds great to me way better than numbers would indicate. Most of the stuff I listen to that's magical to me on my headphone setups is much better recorded/mixed/mastered on paper. I listen to it front to back and its become one of my favorite albums period. It's sort of their "Pink Floyd" album if you ask me. In the last 2 weeks especially there's a lot in their that just fits these times for me personally. There's actual depth to the mix you can pick out.īesides that I find the lyrics to this album are amazing. The way the chords decay and blend is really cool sounding. On my headphone setups it really sounds great and airy and floaty in certain places with a sense of space and location. I enjoy the layering and guitars piled up on the last couple albums. I listen mostly on headphones and there's very little to complain about sonically. ![]() Besides being DR6 it's not badly mixed and sounds very good imo compared to most recordings that are DR6 or even higher. I know there was some unhappiness about the mastering. It clicked in a phenomenal way for me the way some albums just do after a while but not at first. Recently been cracking out on rush again and gave this more attention. So I always liked this album, but I always walked away feeling Snakes was better. ![]()
